Admissions

Overview

Thank you for your interest in enrolling your child at our primary school.

We believe that no two learners arriving at Rodbourne Cheney Primary School are the same. Students come from different backgrounds, bring different experiences, and have different needs and interests. From the moment your child arrives in our school, they can be sure of a warm welcome and receiving help and guidance from their teacher as they become part of a new family here at Rodbourne Cheney Primary School.

At the heart of what we do is making sure our new arrivals:

  • Are happy, settled, and secure.
  • Feel a part of school life as soon as possible.
  • Enjoy their learning.
  • Make friends.
  • Know who to go to for those all-important conversations.
  • Are ready to achieve outstanding success.
  • Are supported if English is not their first language.
  • We believe our children deserve nothing less, and we will do the very best for them.

On this page, you can find information about how to apply for a place, in-year admissions, open events, and what to expect for your child’s first days at the school.

There is a requirement for our Trust, which is its own admitting authority to consult upon their forthcoming admission arrangements, as laid out in School Admissions Code - September 2021.
The White Horse Federation is carrying out consultation in relation to our Primary school's Admissions Arrangements for 2025/26 and 2026/27.

We wish to consult on the proposed changes within the 2025/26 Admissions Policy, so these come into effect from September 2025:

Primary PAN's

Oxfordshire - West Kidlington Primary School - decrease of PAN from 60 to 30

Swindon - Grange Infant School  - Decrease of PAN from 90 to 60

Swindon - Grange Junior School - Decrease of PAN from 90 - 60

The consultation period is now open and will end on the Wednesday 11th December 2024
Please review our Proposed Primary Admissions policy attached. If you wish to raise any concerns or have any questions, please contact: [email protected] before the consultation end date.
A copy of this "proposed" policy will be published on both our Trust and Primary school's websites.

New Starters - What to Expect

Children are admitted to school in the September of the year in which they are five and will be admitted to school full time after their initial induction period. Priority for admission will go to children living in the catchment area and will be agreed according to the Swindon Admissions Policy during June.

Children will be invited to attend for a series of visits to the Reception Class before they start on a daily basis. Prior to these visits, and admission to the school, the class teacher will make a home visit when parents will have an opportunity to talk to her, fill in the necessary forms and receive a Brochure.
