At Rodbourne Cheney Primary School, we want to ensure that children have a secure understanding of how to be healthy in mind, body and relationships.

The use of Jigsaw to teach PSHE throughout the school means that children are constantly building on their knowledge and skills through a progressive scheme of work. Alongside this, we use a tiered approach to vocabulary that allows children to use the language of the subject and builds on what they already know.

Through the teaching at Rodbourne Cheney we aim to ensure that all pupils:

  • Have a secure understanding of how to be healthy in mind, body and relationships.
  • Use a wide range of vocabulary to express their feelings and also allow them to build on what they already know.
  • Not only focus on their own wellbeing but to consider the importance of a diverse community and to respect other cultures.
  • Set their own goals and support them in achieving these by exploring how to overcome disappointment and setbacks as well as celebrating the successes.

For the 2022-23 academic year, we have introduced floor books for each class. PSHE is recorded in the floor book so that we can fluidly document the children's thoughts, feelings and ideas. We ensure that each child has a voice and that these voices are captured and celebrated in the floor book. Please see examples of the children's work in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 below.
